Pangea Trips FAQ

The basics

Who runs these, and whether they are your kind of trip.

Who actually leads these trips?

Every Pangea Trips trip is led by someone the Pangea team has actually traveled with. Not a guide hired for the week — a host who has been on the road with us, who has run trips before and knows how a group works. Each one has a profile here: their bio, the trips they run, and photos from trips they have actually led. You know exactly who you are getting before you book.

How big are the groups?

Pangea Trips groups are small on purpose, and sized to the trip. A remote expedition and a coworking chapter want different numbers, so the group size is set per trip and listed on that trip’s own page. Big enough to make friends, small enough that it never feels like a tour bus — and small enough that your host knows your name on day one.

What if I'm traveling solo?

Most people who travel with Pangea Trips come solo — that's the whole point. The group is the trip. You'll have a vetted community from day one and, more often than not, people you keep traveling with afterward.

I'm interested in off-the-beaten-path travel but have never done it before.

Then you are exactly who Pangea Trips is built for. Most of our travelers were not doing this five years ago. You do not need previous expedition experience, a particular fitness level or a long passport — the logistics, permits and local partners are our job, and your Host is there to make the group work. Start with something shorter if you want to test it: a long weekend or a coworking chapter is a gentler first step than a frontier expedition, and every trip page lists the pace, the group size and what a day actually looks like. If you are not sure which one fits, ask us before you book.

Do I need to be a digital nomad?

Not at all. Pangea Trips is for travelers — full-time nomads, people with two weeks of vacation, and everyone in between. If you like the idea of good trips with good people, you're the target.

What's a coworking chapter versus a trip?

A Pangea Trips chapter is a month-long home base where the community lands in one city together. You sort your own accommodation and workspace — we tell you where — and the chapter gives you the people, a local host, and the events. Weekend trips run alongside and are booked separately. A Pangea Trips adventure trip is a fixed-length journey of 3–10 days. Many people string them together across a season.

What is a Community Expedition?

A newer, looser kind of Pangea trip, to places that are hard to organize the usual way. We set the base and the dates, vet who's coming and make the introductions, and someone from Pangea is there on the ground. You book your room, transfers and activities directly with the locals, so it often costs less, and the dates can be more flexible: you pick your nights within the window. You pay Pangea a community fee once your place is confirmed, and it applies to everyone, Pangea Plus members included. Venezuela II is the first one.

Money & booking

What you pay, what it covers, and what happens if plans change.

How do deposits and payments work?

Pangea Trips only takes deposits on trips that are already confirmed to run. Everything not yet confirmed runs an interest list instead: you leave your email, nothing is charged, and you get first access when booking opens. Terms vary by trip — the deposit amount, the payment schedule and what's refundable are all listed on that trip's own page, because different trips run with different partners. One thing is the same everywhere: if we cancel a trip, you get your deposit back.

What is a “Make it Happen” trip or chapter?

A Pangea Trips Make it Happen trip or chapter has its dates and price set but still needs a few more travelers before it is confirmed. A refundable deposit holds your place. If enough people join, it runs and your deposit goes towards the balance. If it does not reach the minimum, you get the deposit back in full — you are never left paying for a trip that did not happen. It is how we get the less obvious destinations off the ground instead of only running the easy ones.

What does the interest list get me?

The Pangea Trips interest list gets you first access: members hear before a trip opens publicly — and small groups fill fast, so first access matters. No commitment, just first look.

What's included in the price?

What's included in a Pangea Trips price varies by trip, but generally accommodation, ground transport between stops, local guides, and some group meals. Flights and travel insurance are on you. Every trip page has a clear included / not-included list.

Do I need travel insurance?

Travel insurance is not included in a Pangea Trips price, and we would not travel without it. Cover medical, evacuation and trip cancellation at a minimum. The frontier trips are exactly where you do not want to discover your policy excludes the country you are standing in.

Do I need any vaccinations for the trip?

Check with a doctor or a travel health clinic before you go. We're not medical professionals, so we can't advise on vaccinations, medication or health requirements. The right answer depends on where you're going, where you're traveling from and your own health.

What's the difference between the early-bird price and the full price?

A Pangea Trips early-bird price is the launch price, and it's the one to book on if you know you're going. Once it ends, a trip can move to its full price, but it doesn't always. Booking early also helps a trip run: we confirm group numbers with our local partners about two months before departure, and they price on the size of the group.

What's the deal with membership?

Pangea Trips chapters are $99/week or $299/month on their own. Pangea Plus is $499/yr for founding members, rising to $799 once the founding window closes, and covers unlimited chapter months plus a $250 trip credit and early access to new trip drops — so two months in, it has paid for itself. Both check out through Luma. Membership requests are reviewed before your card is charged.
